If you are planning to become an ARCHITECT and practice architecture, here are a few things you should know before embarking on that life adventure. Architecture is the most beautiful and creative job in the world, if you like to draw, imagine and create unique and unrepeatable projects and objects.
Of course, in order to achieve that and reach that level, years and years of persistent and hard work on yourself await you. Some of the basic skills you must have are:
- good handling of numbers – mathematics and various calculations
- creativity and visualization – to come up with something new that has never been seen before
- design – find the perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics
- communication skills – to know how to present your idea in the best possible way
- tendency towards teamwork – you will cooperate with colleagues and various collaborators on the project
- problem solving – to think quickly and always find a solution in an unforeseen situation
- perfect eye for details – to notice every little thing, especially when performing works
- leadership – leadership skills are necessary when designing and executing works
- knowledge of current construction laws, regulations and standards
- computer literacy – use of software for design, 3D modeling and presentation
The above skills are the key to success, if you are lucky most of them will be born to you but don’t despair, if not, everything can be learned. Hard work, effort, persistence and patience await you.

In addition to the above-mentioned skills, it is of course assumed that you acquire the appropriate education.
In addition to elementary school (8 years), you should also complete the Secondary School of Architecture and Technology (4 years), then the Faculty of Architecture and Technology (5 years) and get a job in a project office or construction company. After two years of work experience and participation in the development of at least two projects as an associate designer, you gain the right to take the state professional exam in the field of Architecture and Urban Planning. When you pass the professional exam, the following are the licenses. For that, you need a minimum of one year of work experience and a minimum of two projects where you are the main designer, as well as the consent of two architectural engineers with licenses to issue a license to you. That’s right, then you also get the Design License 300. If you were lucky enough to work in a company that deals with both design and execution of construction works and you participated in it as a construction site manager, then you acquire the condition for obtaining Contractor’s License 400. And finally, after 20 years of learning and working on yourself, you are ready to independently step into the world of architecture and create phenomenal objects and beautify our environment.
